Wildcat Weekend: Football Plays Plainview, Link Here; XC Runs at Waurika; Band Contest

Another weekend brings more opportunities to compete for Madill students and athletes.

The junior high football teams welcome Dickson for two games tonight (Thursday) beginning at 5:30 p.m. inside Blake Smiley Stadium. The freshmen will start at about 6:30 p.m.

The No. 10 Madill (4-1, 1-1) varsity football team plays No. 9 Plainview (3-2,2-0) at 7 p.m. Friday at Blake Smiley Stadium. It will be youth and staff appreciation night for the Wildcats. A performance by the mini cheer ‘Cats is expected prior to the contest and the Lion’s Club football team players are to be introduced. The staff will have worn the jerseys of players that day to school that the players selected as having made a positive impact on their lives. The Wildcats are 15-20 against the Indians since 1974. The 2021 ‘Cats are scoring an average of 38 points per game and only allowing 18 points per contest. Since 1998, all the games between Madill and Plainview have been as district opponents. The Madill varsity cross country teams run at 10:25 a.m. on Saturday in Waurika. The girls are currently ranked No. 8 in Class 4A and Isabel Sanchez has the 11th best time in the class in 2021. She posted a time 12:36.17 at the Marietta meet. The Madill boys arrive at No. 23 this week. Anthony Sanchez continues to lead the way for the Madill boys this season. Madill’s last competition saw the Lady ‘Cats take sixth overall at the pre-state meet in Edmond. The boys were 19th as a group on Sept. 25. "Isabel has been running well this year, about where she was at this time last year," Madill cross country head coach Cale Eidson said. "However, she's even more determined and focused than ever before."

The Madill band will have a contest at Claremore on Saturday. They will be the third band performing at 11 a.m. They were second overall Oct. 2 at the Tishomingo Extravanganza.
