Heritage Hall carried a 28-game winning streak coupled with a pair of state titles into Blake Smiley Stadium Friday night. However, the Chargers found the Wildcats to be resilient. Nonetheless, Heritage Hall left with a 42-19 win.
The Chargers struck first on a 20-yard touchdown pass to Billy Ross from Blake Adams with 8:24 left in the opening period. A one-yard run by Brice Soberanis pushed the Chargers to a 14-0 lead with 3:20 to go in the first. Madill responded when 'Cats' receiver Trevor Goff found himself free of Heritage Hall defenders as quarterback Raygan Dodd hit him in stride on a 64-yard TD pass play. The score remained 13-6 with 10:44 left before intermission. A 15-yard TD pass from Adams to Soberanis nudged the Chargers' edge to 21-6 with 7:59 to go before half. A four-yard TD run with just 25 ticks before the close of the first half by Soberanis granted the Heritage Hall club a 28-6 cushion.
Dodd's one-yard TD plunge closed the gap to 28-12 with 2:55 remaining in the third quarter. Soberanis ran in a 26-yard score at the 1:27 mark of the third that gave the Chargers a 35-12 advantage and his three-yard TD run stretched the Chargers lead to 42-12. Goff then caught a 30-yard TD pass from Dodd to close the scoring on the night for the 'Cats with 2:47 left in the contest.
Goff also collected two interceptions and JJ Sanders picked off a Heritage Hall pass in the contest for the Wildcats.
Madill faces Marshall County foe Kingston Sept. 16 on the road.
