After trailing 10-8 after the first quarter, the Madill girls basketball club grabbed the lead and never looked back in a convincing 52-32 victory over Davis to close out the 2017 calendar year on the floor Tuesday at the Wildcat Fieldhouse. However, the Madill boys couldn't quite overcome a late rally from the Wolves and fell 57-56.
The Madill Lady 'Cats took a 24-20 lead into the locker room and then outscored Davis 17-4 in the third frame to help salt the win away in front of the Wildcat faithful. Madison Jowers had 14 points to lead the Lady Wildcats. Kelsie Lambertsen chipped in 10 points, Rylee Ruff added nine points and Caitlyn Gillis closed the game with five points. Cloe Austin and Taleah Brown each had four points. Kristen Chapa, Leslie Smith and Ashlynn Arnold had two points apiece.
A last-second attempt by the Madill boys missed the mark as the horn sounded to end the contest. The 'Cats trailed by one with 7.6 seconds left in the game and couldn't get the shot to fall on the inbound play. Davis would go to the free throw line with an opportunity to extend its' lead but the shot missed and Madill possessed the rebound and tried to get a game-winning shot to go from about 35 feet from the basket that missed.
Madill owned a 46-36 advantage heading into the fourth quarter, but was outscored 21-10 in the last quarter in the loss.
Asa Robertson led the way with 24 points on the night. Seth Coleman had 10 points. Tanner Barnes had five points, Luke Magness had four points, Isai Castaneda had five points. Miguel Duran had two points, Diego Flores and Wyatt Gray had three points.
